I, like you, have lived most of my life in pain.

 

I have suffered from chronic back pain due to scoliosis since the time of adolescence. The nature of my curved spine makes my upper back and neck feel like I have steel rods instead of muscles. But I have learned to successfully manage my pain and the emotional suffering that comes with it.

I have been practicing yoga for 25 years and teaching for a decade.  To be quite honest, when I began my personal journey of yoga I found it to be a little boring! I kept at it because I had heard about its many benefits and that it might be good for scoliosis. Throughout the years I learned from some incredible teachers that were generous in sharing their insights and wisdom with me. 

Over time, I began to experience the healing potential of yoga. Teaching allowed me to dive deeper into the roots and wisdom of this practice and experiment with how certain poses felt in my body. This was the beginning of my dedication to using yoga as a way to heal my own pain and to help others

  • Recognize the difference between pain vs. sensation
  • Observe how emotions are associated with pain
  • Learn self-soothing techniques to release and dissolve emotions attached to your pain

  • Take a guided meditative journey around the body called Yoga Nidra

ABOUT YOUR YOGA THERAPIST

Jackie is grateful for her work that is challenging and gratifying and she has a passion for seeing others through the healing process. Jackie is happily married to her perfect guy who plays music and writes poetry. They have a sweet life on California’s northern coast with their two crazy-awesome teenage boys and their dog Annie, who is a queen. Jackie loves to cook, hike, travel the world and she loves being in both water and sunshine.  

FAQ:

  • I’m new to yoga. Will this course be too advanced for me? Not at all! The course will offer advanced practices of yoga, such as breathwork and meditation. So it will be new and different. However, none of the postures are advanced. We’ll take the pace slow and explore together. 
  • I am in a wheelchair and/or not very mobile. Are ALIGN Wellness Workshops appropriate for me? Absolutely! Everything we do can be done in a chair or on a bed or couch. I will teach postures on the floor, but will give modifications for everyone. 
  • How much time will this program take me? How much do I have to put in on a weekly basis? Wellness Workshops run in 6- week sessions that range from 1.5-2 hours each. This includes Q&A with Jackie regarding each practice session. Between each session you will be asked to do a “Journey to Healing” homework assignment, which will consist of a short daily practice and journaling that will take about 15-30 minutes of your time. 
  • I’ve been doing yoga for years. Will this program be too basic for me? Maybe, but it's not about advancing your practice of yoga postures. It’s about navigating your way through pain and exploring deeper layers of your being. 
  • What if I miss a session? Will the calls be recorded? Yes, all practice sessions and Q & A will be recorded. 
  • What happens after the program ends? Will I have access to it? You will receive recordings of each Wellness Workshop so you can continue to practice on your own.
